All caught up

Today is Tuesday May 11th. We woke up this morning to a little rain which continued through the morning. There is snow on the canyon walls here in Zion. It is 11:30 and the birds are out again chirping and the sun is trying to peak through.
We are very happy to be in the trailer. We watched lots of people pack up their campsites in the rain. I remember that is not much fun.

Yesterday we did another great hike. We had Zion Adventure shuttle us over to the East Rim Trail. From there we hiked the 10.5 miles to come out at Weeping Rock Trail. We only saw 4 other hikers for the first 8.5 miles. After that the trail connects with the trail to Observation Pt.

We will be back in town in less than a week and will remain in the valley until June 1st. This will probably be my last blog until we are back on the road again June 1st.

Happy Trails

Mothers Day

Nick made biscuits & gravy for Mothers Day

We drove through the tunnel at the East end of the park and hiked the Canyon Overlook

At the view point at Checkerboard Mesa.

A few more from May 9th

Photo taken in Refrigerator Canyon on the way down from Angel's Landing
Ha!! I did wear them out. You don't see me napping!

After the boys had their rest time, we went across the bridge into town for a Blue Bunny Ice Cream.

May 7th Nick

We picked Nick up on the 7th to spend the weekend with us. He is staying in our spare room.
On our way to Angels Landing via Walter's Wiggles. Walter's Wiggles is a series of 20 steep switchbacks. This is just a small portion of the hike. Bob & I had thought that we would seriously beat Nick to the top but he surprised us by staying in the lead. We did beat our time going up by 6 minutes from our time 2 years ago. Now how can we beat that time???

This is a classic photo that Bob likes to take at the very top. Kinda eerie huh?

This is at Scouts Landing which is just before the last 1/2 mile climb with chains to the top.

Ahh, we did it. We are at the summit.

We were not ready to end our hike so we took a little detour up the West Rim Trail.

On the way down through Walter's Wiggles.

Just having a little fun.

Birds and Bird Food

Obviously this one is not a bird. These caterpillars have been all over the ground due to the wind. I don't like 'em, but the birds sure do

This one is a tananger and I do not know what type the blue one is.

Cycling to the Temple

Bob riding up the canyon.

We cycled up the canyon to the Temple of Sinawava. What a gorgeous ride!! It takes the shuttle buses 45 minutes to reach the top with all of their stops. We had conflicting information about how many miles it was from the visitor center. At the info desk in the visitor center, one of the employees told us it was 16 1/2 miles. We were prepared for a long ride and were very surprised when we reached the top in 50 minutes. Later we were told it was 7.5 miles by one of the shuttle drivers. That made more sense.

We stopped at this little waterfall. You do not see it when riding the bus. What a nice treat!

Good Karma 05/04

Some of the park rangers were showing arrowheads and spearheads that they had made. Bob was having an in depth discussion with John, the park ranger in the photo. John took a big chunk of Obsidian and broke off a piece and started making an arrowhead. He made this in about 12 minutes. This was quite interesting. We both had thought that making an arrowhead took much longer. John then gave the arrowhead to Bob. Bob now has one more "special rock". We figure this was just good karma from leaving the spear head in Coyote Buttes.

Catching Up

This is on the hike up to Observation Point
The View from Observation Point

Hiking back down from Observation Point. As you can see the rock was blasted away fromt he wall to make the trail.
This hike was 8 miles roundtrip with a climb of 2148 ft.

We have been in Zion for 10 days now. We are camped in the South Campground in a beautiful campsite.
