The Catwalk is suspended about 10 feet above Whitewater Creek.
The catwalk history began with the discovery of gold & silver in the rugged Mogollon Mtns. above Whitewater Canyon. In 1893 ore was mined and dropped through a steel pipe from Whitewater Mesa and funneled doen to the mill. About 1908 the mill was dismantled. In the mid 1930's the CCC rebuilt the Catwalk for the Gila national Forest. The catwalk has been rebuilt several times due to floods.
This was a fun and beautiful hike.
